Can you believe it's been just over 2 weeks? Me neither! Here are a few pics of the pups. Their eyes just opened about 2 days ago.

Day 1

Whew! Hard to believe that just a little over 24 hours ago I was laboring and giving birth. It was worth it though. Four sweet little puppies! Here is a pic mommy took of me and the pups this evening. Also, another pic of them nursing. You can see their colors pretty well in that pic. Enjoy - I will post more tomorrow.
Till then,

Day 60 - October 28, 2009 Happy BIRTHday!

Well, I was acting a little clingy this morning. My temp dropped a little. Mommy went to work. She was watching me on the HeidiCam at about 3:40p and noticed I was under the covers and moving a lot. (She moved the cam to look at her bed while she was at work - smart mommy). So, she called my human sister, Rebecca, who happened to be at my house. She came to check on me and told mommy that I was panting and whimpering. Mommy let everyone at Fruitful Vine know and headed right out the door. Meanwhile Rebecca kept trying to put me in my box. I wanted mommy!!! So, I climbed out three times. Finally, she put me in one more time and promised that mommy was on her way. So, knowing she wouldn't lie to me about something like that, I stayed.

She couldn't get home fast enough! I was waiting for her and wanting her by my side. I did the usual 'building my nest', panting, looking up at mommy and a tad of whimpering.

At 4:40p, the first of the litter arrives! A tiny chocolate brown girl. Funny because my last litter the first was a tiny chocolate brown boy! Anyway the little peanut weighed 3.75 ounces. Teeny!

At 4:50p, the second one arrived. Thankfully, he came very fast after the first one. He is so cute! Black with white paws and a white chest. He weighed 5 ounces.

I was busy eating placentas, trimming cords, cleaning and nursing puppies. And WAITING!

Mommy stayed right by my side, never leaving me! She was, however, chatting and adding folks to the HeidiCam. And talking her midwife business on the phone. A couple of times Aunt Hope called to check on me. I thought that was special because other than mommy she is the only other human who has been 'with' me for all my births!

The other dogs were so curious. Pete (from my first litter) was the most curious. He would not leave the room! He was smart and didn't bother me. He just didn't want to leave my room!

At about 6:45p, mommy started getting a little concerned. After the second one was born she saw that the next two were one each side of my abdomen so she figured it might take a little bit to get them into the pelvis but this was longer than she anticipated. She also noticed I had been intermittently pushing for about 20 minutes - not constant though - and no pup in sight. So, she called my Dr. (a human who helps animals, you call them vets).

Dr. G wasn't at the office and the doctor who was on call was getting ready to leave for the day. The lady on the phone said mommy should take me to the hospital because the doctor there was leaving for the day. No! Don't transport me!!! Mommy asked if she could just talk to him. She just wanted a little advice.

A very nice doctor (I can't remember his name but will find out later) came on the phone. Mommy told him who I was and that I was a patient of Dr. G's. Gave him a little history of me and Hank. She also mentioned that she was a human midwife ;-). He was amazing! Kind of like the Dr. van Scriver of the animal world! He told mommy not to worry since I had never had any problems before and was having pups with Hank again. Gave her some advice, even told her she could check me if she was really worried (glad she didn't have to do that). He was amazing - ah! I already said that!!! The phone call ended at 7:01p.

Mommy just looked at me after the phone call and told me she knew I could do this and that it was okay to push my puppy out. Found out later that a bunch of Facebook ladies were encouraging me too! It is nice to know that there are so many out there that Trust Whelping!

At 7:11p, I finally pushed out puppy number 3. There was a little bit of meconium (puppy poo) in the fluid which was the only thing different from any of my other births. It's another boy! He is a light brown and dark brown combo. I shall call him my trouble maker - hehe! He weighed 5.25 ounces.

At 7:47p, while nursing three puppies, I pushed out the final pup. A black female with a tiny white line on the top of her head. She weighed 5.75 ounces.

It took a while to get them clean and dry. Mommy helped by changing out the bedding. I immediately fell asleep while my puppies were nursing. Don't give me a hard time for co-sleeping please!

The first night was uneventful. I finally left the box at 4a. I climbed in bed with mommy and started licking her! Then I heard a puppy cry and ran back to the box. I repeated that at 4:30a.
And again at 6:30a. Didn't get to sleep with mommy but did get three short visits with her.

At 7a, daddy brought me a big meal. I ate it all while a couple of jealous dogs watched. Ha, I deserve breakfast in bed guys!

Pictures later tonight. Mommy doesn't want to disturb us too much yet.

Till next time,
Heidi

Day 60 - video of puppies moving

My temp was a little low this morning but mommy thinks we should recheck it around noon to make sure. We'll see. The puppies are so active! Check out the video and see!

Day 52 - News!

This pic was taken on day 50. Well, I had my visit with Dr. G today. He said I was in pretty good shape. Need to eat more puppy food - bring it on! I LOVE FOOD!!!

Anyway, the big news is this - there are FOUR puppies in my uterus ;-)

Heidi cam will be up and running next Monday. Stay tuned.
Till next time,
Heidi

Day 41 - October 9, 2009

Mommy was comparing my pics from last time to how I look this time and was quite convinced there are more than two babies in there. We went over to A Place for Women (and Heidi) to check out my ever expanding girth.

There are three, maybe four! Yikes!!! We got video but there is a little technical difficulty getting that off the camera.

The puppies are each about 4 cm from head to butt. We could see their little legs kicking and paws rubbing their heads.

Three more weeks of pregnancy until my due date.

Until later,
Heidi

Day 28 - Better Pic

There are my two little embryos! (Mommy thought there might be a third one. ) Two for certain. Human sister, Rebecca, helped Mommy with this ultrasound. According to the ultrasound, I am right on schedule!

Back when there is more to report!
Till then -

September 22, 2009

I have some exciting news for all of you! I just had my pregnancy confirmed this afternoon. My human mommy took me to see Dr. van Scriver (human OB). She did an ultrasound and we were able to see two, maybe three, sacs. Evelyn (human midwife) helped by pressing buttons on the machine. So, one of the sacs measured 10 mm - that's tiny but right on for where I am in the pregnancy.

This is day 25 and my due date is October 30/31. Mark your calendars, ready your viewing of the Heidi cam and stay tuned for updates of what will likely be my last litter.

June 2, 2009 - Goodbye Brooke!

Today was a bittersweet day. Brooke, 10 weeks old today, left to meet her new family. She left with her grandma and grandpa and they will take her to Virginia to live with Robyn, Garrett and their children. The first picture is when my human mommy took her to meet with the grandparents. She and 'monkey' went together. The next picture was taken at her new house. She looks so happy! Heidi

Monday May 25, 2009 - Char Baby has a new home!

Charlotte a.k.a. Char Baby has a new home! Her new mommy is Collene and Char is living the high life! She has her own pink fluffy bed and toys galore! I gave her one of my special toys to take to her new house. Hopefully she will remember me because of it. Here is a pic of her in her bed and with her new mommy.

Talk to you later,
Heidi

May 24, 2009 - Duncan Goes to His New Home

I thought this day would never get here. (I hope I don't sound too excited - hehe.) The first of my pups goes to his new home. How appropriate - he was the first born and the first to leave the nest. We shall forever remember him as Duncan. The new mommy is trying to figure out the best name for him. She has mentioned Cocoa (sounds like a girl poodle name) or maybe Mocha and call him Moe. So many decisions naming a baby. I just say call him puppy! He answers to that.

Here are a couple of pics from today's exchange. In one of the pics Duncan is whispering a secret in my ear, the other is a proud Duncan who walked in the grass for the first time and then Duncan with his new mommy. She will be a great mommy!

May 17, 2009 - 7 weeks 5 days

So, I have been a bit neglectful in blogging as of late. The pups continue to grow and are now eating solid food. Oh, they still nurse about 3 times a day! They are so funny! Each has their own personality and it's entertaining watching them. So far only Mona has a permanent home. If you are interested you should talk to my mommy. They are not that expensive and come with pedigree papers. Of course, you have to pass my test :-)

Here are a couple of pics and their latest weights. Duncan weighs 1 pound 11 ounces, Mona weighs 2 pounds 1 ounce, Charlotte weighs 2 pounds 15 ounces and Brooke weighs 2 pounds 10 ounces.

Talk to you soon!
Heidi

I'm Home!

Thanks to Dr. Water, Dr. Price and of course, Dr. Camie Abbott - I have been released from the hospital! I am feeling much better than earlier and am so happy to be back with the wee ones.

A couple of updates, the pups all have names. My human daddy couldn't stand that they were being referred to by their colors. So, here they are: the boy is Duncan - like the company Duncan Hines - they make brownies :-), the black girl is Charlotte. She squeals like a pig when you pick her up. Charlotte's Web is a story about a pig. That pig is a boy so hence the name Charlotte. The small tricolor girl is still Mona. The larger tricolor girl is still Brooke.

Now for some sad news - Brooke doesn't have a home anymore. There was a tragedy in the family that was to have her. Pray for the Billotti and Wood families - they lost some very special family members. My human mommy is sad - she helped the mom birth two of her babies.

Till next time,
Heidi

Crazy Times for this Mama

Just after I posted last night, I started feeling yucky. I was sick! I am grateful I have a doting human mom who noticed my unusual behavior and high fever early. She took me to Dr. Camie's emergency vet place where I saw Dr. Price. Sidenote - Dr. Price was awesome! She is a mommy too and understood my need to be with my pups.

Well, we mostly waited but they checked my blood for calcium and turns out I have milk fever/eclampsia! Yikes! That's dangerous!!! They gave me an IV of calcium and voila I was feeling better. They let me go home with instructions not to nurse the puppies (that is what has drained me of my calcium) and to come back in the morning to recheck the calcium levels.

Slept with mom and dad (as usual) and a couple hours later it was time to be rechecked. Well, not so good news - my calcium levels are lower than they were last night :-(. So, mommy and daddy left me at the hospital with the nice staff and took the four pups home. I trust mommy with my little ones. I just don't want Chubs and Pete all over them!

I will give an update when they spring me from this joint.

Till next time,
Heidi
